About me

Not much to say here, except that I have been rearing termites since my childhood. Personally, I find termites fascinating and challenging to rear, more so than ants as they are not as hardy as ants. While termites have a generally bad reputation as destructive wood eaters, not every species is like that. The real truth is that only a small proportion of termite species are actually responsible for most of the damage to buildings and property. They in turn wind up giving the other termites a bad reputation.

There are thousands of species of termites in the world, and there are many more waiting to be discovered. I am fortunate to live in a country, Malaysia, where termites are abundant, and has one of the highest concentration of termite species in the entire world, area for area. However, the majority of termite species are found in tropical forests, and many species seem to be very localized in occurrence. It goes without saying that termites play an important role in the ecology of many habitats, where they occur.

This site comes about from my experience with termites, and 99.9% of the pictures here are from my own large personal collection. The other 0.01% is from stock photo sites. I don’t claim to be an expert on termites, but this site is mainly about my hobby and I share what I know about termites here (an online reference on termites). Copying my content for commercial purposes is of course a no no (With the exception of personal use) – Do understand this. An email now and then though, would be nice.

Thanks and have a great day!
